Barndominiums — Live, Work & Store Under One Steel Roof.
A barndominium gives you a full home and a working shop, garage, or barn under one steel roof — for a fraction of the cost-per-square-foot of traditional stick-built construction. Triton Industries delivers the fully engineered barndo shell: slab and footing drawings, primary steel framing, exterior wall and roof panels, insulation options, exterior doors, and pre-framed window openings. From there, you (or your contractor) handle plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and interior finish exactly how you want them. Common Triton barndo footprints run 40×60 up to 60×100 with full 2-story options, RV-height shop bays, wraparound porches, and lean-to wings. Browse real builds below and design a shell that fits your land, your lifestyle, and your finish budget.
Why Steel Is the Smart Choice for a Barndo
Barndominiums need long, open clear-spans for the shop side and a quiet, weather-tight envelope for the living side. Steel does both better than wood: 100% open interior with no load-bearing walls (so floor plans are 100% flexible), no rot or termites, faster permitting in most counties, and significantly lower insurance because steel is non-combustible.
Triton barndo shells ship with 14-gauge red-iron or galvanized framing, your choice of vertical or horizontal exterior panels, factory-pre-cut window and door rough openings, and a stamped engineered package for your county.
Common Barndominium Layouts
There's no one-size-fits-all — but these are the layouts Triton customers order most often.
- 40×60 Shop + 1-Bedroom Living — 1,200 sq ft of shop on one end, 1,200 sq ft of living on the other. The starter barndo.
- 50×80 Family Barndo — 3-bedroom living quarters, 2-bay garage, and a separate shop bay. Triton's most-popular size.
- 40×100 Shop-Forward — Large shop or hobby space (3,000+ sq ft) with a smaller efficiency or one-bedroom living area.
- 60×80 Two-Story Living — Two-story living section gives you a true family home plus a full-height shop.
What's Included vs. What You Add Later
Triton delivers the engineered shell: framing, roof, walls, exterior doors, exterior windows, anchor system, and stamped drawings. Optional shell add-ons include lean-tos, porches, dormers, wainscot, gutters, and insulation packages (we recommend closed-cell spray foam for the living section).
Interior finish — drywall, flooring, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, kitchens, baths — is handled by you or your local contractor. Most counties treat the interior buildout the same as a stick-frame home, so any local builder can complete it.
Common Questions About Barndominiums
Are barndominiums cheaper than a traditional house?
The shell typically runs 15–30% less per sq ft than a stick-built home. Total project cost depends on how high-end you finish the interior — barndos can be modest or luxury.
Can I finance a barndo?
Yes. Triton partners with rural lenders and construction-to-perm programs that specifically finance barndominium builds. Ask us for current options.
How long until I can move in?
Shell is typically up in 1–3 weeks after delivery. Full interior finish usually takes another 3–6 months depending on scope.
