Choose Your Insulation Type

Pick the Insulation that Fits Your Building

Not every building needs the same type of insulation. Here are the four options Triton installs most often — and a quick rundown of where each one shines.

Single Bubble Insulation

An economical single-layer reflective option that still gets the job done. Great for smaller buildings and basic condensation control.

  • Single layer of reflective foil with one bubble core
  • Cuts radiant heat transfer through the roof
  • Reduces minor condensation on metal panels
  • Best for sheds, carports, and budget-minded builds

Double Bubble Insulation

A step up that adds more heat reflection and a touch of comfort. If you spend real time in your shop, this one's worth it.

  • Two reflective foil faces with a double bubble core
  • Stronger radiant barrier and improved thermal break
  • Noticeably better condensation and heat control
  • Triton's most popular general-purpose insulation

Reflective (ProDex Style)

Serious about energy savings. Reflects radiant heat and keeps interior temps steady — ideal for workshops and barndos in use all day.

  • High-performance multi-layer reflective system
  • Big drop in summer heat gain and winter heat loss
  • Holds up well in humid and high-condensation climates
  • Pairs perfectly with HVAC for finished interiors

Fiberglass Batt Insulation

The classic. Fiberglass shines in larger buildings where sound matters too — keeps things quiet, comfortable, and energy-efficient.

  • Available in R-13, R-19, R-25, and higher batt thicknesses
  • Excellent sound dampening for shops and commercial use
  • Vapor-barrier facing keeps moisture in check
  • Recommended for HVAC-conditioned barndominiums
Why It Matters

Why Insulate Your Metal Building

Insulation does more than just hold a temperature. It protects the structure, your gear, and your wallet — every season, every year you own the building.

Condensation Control

Stops moisture from forming on bare metal panels and keeps rust, mildew, and corrosion away from your structure.

Lower Energy Bills

Less heat loss in winter and less heat gain in summer means smaller HVAC loads and noticeably lower utility bills.

Year-Round Comfort

Holds steady interior temperatures whether you're working through a Texas summer or a North Carolina cold snap.

Noise Reduction

Knocks down rain drum, echo, and outside noise — turning a metal shell into a quiet, livable space.

Moisture Protection

Vapor-barrier facings help guard against mold, mildew, and the slow corrosion that shortens building life.

Longer Building Life

By controlling temperature swings and humidity inside, insulation protects framing, panels, and everything you store.

Where It Earns Its Keep

Where Insulation Helps the Most

Some buildings benefit more than others. These are the spaces where Triton customers get the biggest comfort and cost-saving wins from a properly insulated metal building.

  • Workshops & Garages

Keeps tools dry, paint and finishes stable, and turns long workdays into something you can actually enjoy.

  • Barndominiums

Holds steady temperatures and dramatically lowers sound transfer so the living space feels like a real home.

  • Commercial Buildings

Keeps employees comfortable, customers happy, and HVAC systems from running 24/7 in the heat or the cold.

  • Utility & Ag Buildings

Protects feed, livestock, and equipment from damp air, frost, and the moisture cycles that ruin stored goods.

  • Cold-Climate Builds

Cuts down on frost, freeze-ups, and the constant condensation that comes with big winter temperature swings.

  • Hot & Humid Regions

Reflects radiant solar gain off the roof so the interior never feels like an oven by the middle of the afternoon.

Insulation FAQ

Questions Triton Customers Ask Most

Honest answers to the most common questions about choosing, installing, and getting the most out of metal building insulation.

Can I add insulation to my Triton building later?

Yes. Many customers add insulation when they enclose walls or upgrade interiors down the road. That said, planning doors, trims, framing depth, and clear heights up front makes future insulation much easier and less expensive to install.

Which insulation is best for a workshop with HVAC?

We typically recommend R-14 or higher fiberglass batts, or a high-R reflective system like ProDex with sealed seams. Both options pair well with HVAC and keep your conditioned air where you want it.

Will insulation completely stop condensation?

It dramatically reduces condensation, but proper ventilation, vapor barriers, and site drainage still matter. We design every Triton package so your insulation, ventilation, and drainage work together.

Does adding insulation affect my warranty?

Insulation installed per the manufacturer's guidance and Triton's specifications keeps your panel and workmanship coverage fully intact. Just maintain proper moisture management and ventilation as outlined in your owner's documentation.

What R-value do I actually need?

It depends on climate, building use, and whether you're heating or cooling the space. Single bubble (R-6) is fine for unconditioned storage. Double bubble (R-9) is the popular all-purpose choice. Reflective (R-16) and fiberglass batts are best for conditioned shops, barndominiums, and commercial spaces.

Can I mix insulation types in one building?

Absolutely. Many customers run higher R-value insulation in living or working areas and a basic radiant barrier in storage zones. Our team can spec a mixed package so you only pay for the performance you need where you need it.
